The Adventures of Tin Tin was an incredible, and visually outstanding film. Personally, I felt it was less of a movie, and more of an adventure. It reminded me of the thrill I experienced as a child watching Indiana Jones being performed live at Disney World.This film has, without hesitation, been added to my list of favorites.-D

Was thinking about how incredible and empowering music can be. A fun and creative exercise would be to create animations AROUND music, but I'm not talking about muscial-type animations. Let the mood of the music drive the character's design / performance. Think it lends itself to be a deep concept.

Here's one composition I think would be a good "test subject":

Here's to the animation genius, Hayao Miyazaki. If you haven't yet, make sure to check out Castle in the Sky, The Cat's Return, and Lupin the Third: The Castle of Cagliostro. Study everything about these films, from character delineations and nuances to the way each story is masterfully told. If your goal is to be a great animator, Miyazaki's films should be a prerequisite, and something you look back on from time to time for inspiration. And there are several more I could add to this list, but these are a few that have caught my attention as of late.

This post is a "thank you" to Miyazaki and the amazing animators of Studio Ghibli for the effort and passion put in to make every work brilliantly entertaining.

Animation Test for an Unannouced Short Film...

It's been a long time, I shouldn't have left you...without an animation to step to ;)(eh, it was bound to happen...better sooner than later). lol

This is an animation test for an unannounced Project for an upcoming short by New Fuel Studios(www.newfuelstudio.com). This was just done to do a little stress-testing for enveloping purposes. The rig was provided by New Fuel Studios. Very fun character. Hope you enjoy and comments are definitely welcome.

Auto Overlap Tool!

Again, I've lost sleep...but I have a good excuse! Been working on a tool to create quick automatic overlap on control objects. You can control, and animate, the magnitude of overlap that occurs, and you can have access to animate on the original control.

So, I just finished freelancing for Shilo West (www.shilo.tv), an outstanding production studio! I was privileged to work on an amazing project (which I will post more about when I'm able), and met some great and very talented people in the process! What a ton of fun! And I normally don't say phrases like "what a ton of fun"...perhaps something like..."what an AMAZING project", or..."this project is SLAMMIN'"! So that goes to show you the EXTENT of fun that was had while freelancing at this amazing place. lol. So, stay tuned as I should shortly have some content to show. Until then, be easy!

A Commercial!

So, as I mentioned in the previous post, I've been a little busy. One of the projects I've been working on is a commercial with a good buddy of mine, and presented before you today...or to...whatever time in the day it is, is a playblast. My responsibilities include all rigging and animation, and basic modeling and texturing of the character and the holographic screen.

(Oh, and this character utilizes the "nSPine" I mentioned in the previous post. This animation doesn't quite show the robustness of the nSpine, so I plan to work on a fun little "stress test" or two...or three...that will.)

It's HERE...well...it's CLOSE...VERY close!

Hello! It's been a long time...or, at least it feels that way. Don't worry, I've been busy. One of the things I've been occupying myself with is trying to create a more stable Spine rig that won't flip out under pressure. I'm happy with what I have so far, but with that said, there is, of course (here it comes) "always room for improvement" (oh, no...a CLICHÉ...the PAIN). I call it...dun,dun, duuuuuun...dun, dun, dun, dun...dun-dun-du...ok, the nSpine! I plan to have an animation test or two showing off this ennnSPine shortly...so stay tuned (who remembers that movie..."Stay Tuned"...classic). Anyway, until then, enjoy living.

This is another shot I've animated from the same short. In this scene, the shark is hungered after terrorizing the city all day. He finds a nearby building he'd like to take a bit out of, and just as he chomps out a piece, he is distracted by an obscure object that is fast approaching (the robot).

And just FYI, the buildings are, ostensibly, just proxies, and the background image is something I've added only to "get into the shot". The actual set will be FAR cooler...so don't worry :)

A Mouse's Tale...

This is a shot I've animated for an upcoming short film called "A Mouse's Tale". What you see here is this huge Godzilla-looking shark flicking away a robot (that red and blue stand-in object being flicked...yeah, I built that;) ), then exiting left. The buildings are simply stand-ins themselves I've made for clarity on the size and proportions of the shark. Hope you enjoy, and any feedback is more than welcome!

We all have debilities within our character that annoy us like giant fleas. lol. So this animation was, more or less, inspired by the fact that we can not give into those weaknesses that at times seem overwhelming; but instead, we must overcome those giants, which can be overcome if we are so willing.
